Attacks against Adwoa Safo an attempt to discredit her – ACWP

The Africa Centre for Women In Politics (ACWP) has condemned the criticisms hurled against the Member of Parliament for the Dome-Kwabenya constituency, Sarah Adwoa Safo.

According to ACWP, they believe the attacks against Adwoa Safo, who is part of the few women in Parliament, is to discredit her before the general public.

"We have observed with deep concern the recent vitriolic attacks on Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo, Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya Constituency and Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection.

Feminist CSOs hold National Forum on gender-based violence

The Executive Director of Alliance of Feminist Civil Society Organisations (AFCSOs), Alimatu Issahak, has called on stakeholders to take a stance against gender-based violence.

She was speaking at a national forum on gender-based violence held at the University of Professional Studies – Accra as part of activities to mark the United Nations' 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence Campaign.

According to her, the campaign was a grand opportunity for stakeholders to condemn gender-based violence as well as propose solutions to end gender-based violence in communities across Ghana.

Akosombo Dam spillage: Freda Prempeh must apologise for reckless, insensitive comment to flood victims – Group

The Alliance of Feminists CSOs (AFCOs) is the latest in a long line of groups and organisations to condemn the comments made by the Sanitation Minister, Freda Prempeh, concerning the flood victims in the Lower Volta Basin.

Ms. Freda Prempeh had blamed the victims of the flood for the calamity that had befallen them.

According to her, they had refused to heed warnings from the Volta River Authority (VRA) to evacuate ahead of the Akosombo and Kpong Hydro Dams spillages leading to the large scale devastation and displacement in the area.

Akosombo Dam spillage: Move flood victims to Saglemi, give them compensation – CSOs to Akufo-Addo

The Alliance of Feminists Civil Societies Organisations (AFCSOs) has called on President Akufo-Addo to consider relocating flood victims of the Akosombo dam spillage to the houses at the Saglemi housing project.

According to the group, it is currently important to provide decent accommodation for the victims while awaiting final decisions on the matter.

In a press statement issued on October 18, 2023, it said: “The AFCSOs is calling on His Excellency the President of the republic as a matter of urgency to consider relocating flood victims to the Saglemi Housing Project while awaiting finality to be brought to this critical issue.

Offer Saglemi Housing Project to Akosombo Dam-induced flood victims – CSOs to Akufo-Addo

A group of civil society organisations have asked President Akufo-Addo to relocate victims of the Akosombo Dam spillage to the abandoned Saglemi Housing Project.

CSOs under the umbrella of the Alliance of Feminists Civil Societies Organisations (AFCSOs) are demanding immediate consideration of their plea.

The group in a press statement issued on Wednesday, October 18, said the fundamental human rights of the affected persons must be considered.

“The AFCSOs is calling on His Excellency the President of the republic as a matter of urgency to consider relocating flood victims to Saglemi Housing Project while awaiting finality to be brought to this critical issue.”

Females educated on ways to fight sexual and gender-based violence

The Alliance of Feminists CSOs and Plan International Ghana have engaged females in five regions of the country on how to combat sexual and gender-based violence.

They are the Eastern, Central, Oti, Greater Accra and Volta regions. The Coordinator of the program, Miss Alimatu Issahak noted that it is imperative for all females to be well equipped on issues surrounding sexual violence and how to deal with it.
